7 Great Holiday Gifts for Fido

Have you picked out holiday presents for your dog yet? Many of our canine pals will find themselves with special treats and new toys over the next few weeks, but there are lots of other things you can get Fido. Below, a Riverside County, CA vet lists some great gift options for dogs.

Automated Ball Launcher

Does Fido love chasing after tennis balls? Consider getting him an automated ball launcher. These can keep playful pups amused for hours! (Note: we don’t recommend these for large breeds, as tennis balls can be a choking hazard for big dogs.)

Puppy Play Zone

Do you have a yard for your furry friend to run and play in? Consider making Fido a puppy play zone. Ramps, durable toys, sprinklers, and sandboxes are a few things you can include. Of course, a new doghouse would also make a great gift!

Toys

New doggy toys are bound to get that cute furry tail wagging! Before you go shopping, check Fido’s toy box, and toss out anything that looks old or damaged.

Homemade Doggy Cookies

If you enjoy baking, consider making your four-legged friend some delicious homemade dog cookies. Just be sure to use only healthy ingredients. Some good options are shredded meat; cheese; eggs; whole-wheat flour; plain yogurt; ripe bananas; and peanut butter. Look online for great recipe ideas. These also make great gifts for people with dogs of their own.

New Bed

Man’s Best Friend tends to spend quite a bit of time sleeping. Consider getting Fido a new doggy bed. Senior dogs may need the extra support of an orthopedic bed, while smaller pups may prefer beds with raised sides.

Elevated Dishes

Dogs sometimes have to splay their legs to eat from bowls on the floor. This can put a lot of strain on Fido’s neck and back. If your canine friend is medium or large in size, he may appreciate elevated dishes.

Paw Balm

Dogs can get painful blisters and abrasions on their paws from walking on hot or rough surfaces, especially after going swimming. Pick up a container of paw balm or wax for your four-legged buddy, and put it in his stocking.
