Our Veterinarians

Dr. Henry Randazzo

Owner, Veterinarian

Ever since he was young, Dr. Henry Randazzo adored horses and loved working outdoors. What better way to combine his passion for animals with his desire to perform hands-on work, he thought, than by becoming an animal-care professional? Now he’s served as a veterinarian for almost 50 years!

Originally from Louisiana, Dr. Randazzo attended Louisiana State University before earning his DVM degree from Oklahoma State University. After taking a summer job in Manhattan Beach, California, he fell in love with the area and relocated. Eventually, Dr. Randazzo found himself running three separate practices in Coachella Valley—he decided to roll them into one, and Desert Dunes Animal Hospital was born.

Dr. Randazzo and his wife have five grown children between them and live with several cats, dogs, and horses. In his time away from the clinic, Dr. Randazzo enjoys playing golf, hiking, and going fishing.

Dr. Eric Jackman

Owner, Veterinarian

One day while Dr. Eric Jackman was growing up on his family’s small-town farm in Wales, Utah, one of their horses injured itself on a fence. Young Dr. Jackman was fascinated as the local veterinarian sedated the animal, cleaned and sutured the wounds, and nursed the horse back to full health. From that moment on, he wanted to be a veterinarian himself!

Dr. Jackman attended Utah State University to receive his Bachelor’s degree in pre-veterinary science, then earned his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Colorado State University in 1990. He was introduced to Dr. Henry Randazzo in 2004 by a mutual acquaintance, and the two knew right away they would make a fantastic team. Now, Dr. Jackman is a partner here at Desert Dunes Animal Hospital!

As a vet, Dr. Jackman enjoys the variety of work he gets to perform—on any given day, he can be a dentist, dermatologist, or a surgeon! He has special interests in orthopedic surgery and ultrasonography. Most of all, Dr. Jackman enjoys meeting his wonderful clients and developing lasting relationships with them and their pets.

In his time away from the hospital, Dr. Jackman loves to fly fish, run, and spend time with his family and two fantastic grandsons. He also likes enjoying the company of his family’s rescued West Highland white terrier, who loves everyone and is obsessed with chasing tennis balls.

Dr. John Howarth

Growing up in Nebraska and northwestern Arkansas, Dr. John Howarth was always nursing sick or injured animals back to health. He decided at the ripe age of 12 that he would become a veterinarian! Dr. Howarth never gave up on his dream, and has now been serving the pets of southern California for nearly 50 years.

Dr. Howarth earned his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Oklahoma State University, then spent two years as a Captain in the United States Army. Upon returning to California, he began his veterinary career. Having been close with Dr. Henry Randazzo since veterinary school, he joined his friend here at Desert Dunes Animal Hospital in 1994.

Dr. Howarth has a special interest in surgery, and especially enjoys that he can make a big difference in a pet’s well-being very quickly. He’s also fond of emergency medicine and the challenge it brings.

When he’s not caring for the area’s pets, Dr. Howarth enjoys staying active by hiking, riding motorcycles and wave runners, and traveling. He lives with his dog, Bill, and has two grown children and a pair of grandchildren. Dr. Howarth’s daughter trains horses, and his son works as a veterinarian himself!

Dr. Byron Emswiller

Associate Veterinarian

Dr. Byron Emswiller’s great grandfather was the 50th licensed veterinarian in the state of Indiana—Dr. Emswiller feels that he inherited his passion for veterinary medicine. He’s served as an Associate Veterinarian here at Desert Dunes Animal Hospital for over a decade!

Raised in Indiana, Dr. Emswiller attended Purdue University’s School of Veterinary Medicine to receive his veterinary degree. After spending most of his veterinary career in southern Florida, where he owned three separate veterinary hospitals in the Palm Beach area, Dr. Emswiller moved to California and was COO for 3 Emergency Hospitals in Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties before joining the Desert Dunes Animal Hospital family.

In addition to his veterinary credentials, Dr. Emswiller holds a law degree that he earned from the Harvard Consortium Schools in Boston and an MBA from Nova Southeastern University in the mid-1990s. Dr. Tim Connor

Associate Veterinarian

Dr. Tim Connor comes from a family of animal-care professionals—his father and uncle were both veterinarians. Dr. Connor started working alongside them at their clinics and farms at a very young age, and couldn’t help but fall in love with the profession. It didn’t take him long to decide that he wanted to become a veterinarian himself!

Dr. Connor grew up in a small farming community in Illinois, and attended Iowa State University before being accepted to veterinary school at the University of Illinois in 1970. After starting his career in small- and large-animal medicine, Dr. Connor moved to California in 1995, where he began working in the southern California racetrack circuit. In 2007, he became the State Veterinarian at the southern California tracks until joining the Desert Dunes Animal Hospital family in 2009. While Dr. Connor considers his years of working with horses very rewarding, he says that it doesn’t compare to the work he gets to do here at the hospital. Helping nurse sick pets back to health and providing help for their loving owners is the ultimate gratification for him!

Dr. Connor and his wife, Kathy, have four grown children. They both enjoy golfing—on any given day, it’s a challenge that can either be disappointing or very rewarding.

Dr. Nicole Brockmeier

Associate Veterinarian

Dr. Nicole Brockmeier always had pets while growing up in her family’s Santa Monica, California home. For as long as she can remember, Dr. Brockmeier has wanted to give back to the animals who constantly showed her unconditional loyalty and love! She gets to do just that as an Associate Veterinarian here at Desert Dunes Animal Hospital.

Dr. Brockmeier attended Colorado State University to receive her Bachelor’s degree and a Master’s in biomedical sciences. She returned to California for veterinary school, earning her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the Western University of Health Sciences. In 2010, she joined the Desert Dunes Animal Hospital team, bringing with her a special interest in avian medicine.

At home, Dr. Brockmeier has two birds of her own: Ophelia, the consummate cuddlebug, and Hamlet, who is very independent and prefers to do his own thing. When she isn’t spending time with her own pets or caring for the area’s animals here at the clinic, Dr. Brockmeier enjoys snowboarding, reading, and playing polo. She played polo throughout college and even won a few tournaments!
